What Are Rules?
“Rules are machine-executable checks that review models for compliance requirements. They are implemented as generic checking algorithms that can be customized with user-defined parameters. In Verifi3D, each Rule type represents a different algorithm that checks for a different kind of requirement. Examples of Rule types are Clash Check and Property Check. Rules can be organized and executed in Rule Sets.”

Four Stages Of Rule-Based Checking
Eastman et al., (2009) highlighted that Rule checking can be broadly structured into four stages;
(1) rule interpretation and logical structuring of rules for their application;
(2) building model preparation, where the necessary information required for checking is prepared;
(3) the rule execution phase, which carries out the checking, and
(4) the reporting of the checking results.
